What if Ned Stark pulled a Frankenstein? How different would the chess game of who wins the iron throne been? I don’t think Ned should be back. His storyline is concluded. His death triggered this chain of events. And without Ned’s death, there would be no story to tell.
If however, we had to think about it here are
Assuming he was either not dead, faked his death or was raised by Beric Dondarrion.
A Ned return would not only ensure Winterfell is the Stark stronghold again but also securing the North from the power hungry Southerners. Bonus: Rob Stark would’ve still been alive!
If there were one person who would’ve taken the threat of the walking dead beyond the wall seriously, it would’ve been Ned.
Being the wise leader that he is, he would’ve aided the Night’s Watch in securing the wall and making peace with the wildlings much ahead of time.
No more creepy Littlefinger masterminding his manipulative schemes! Ned was the only one who knew that Petyr Baelish was the one who betrayed him in the first place. His priority would’ve been exposing the mockingbird!
One primary reason we would love to have Ned back even if only for a moment it would be this!
To explain why he kept the biggest secret of his life. To explain Rhaegar and Lyanna’s real motives because we all know there was more to this story than meets the eye.
Ned’s first ally in his war against the Lannisters would’ve been the historic partnership between him and Stannis Baratheon, brother of Robert Baratheon.
Ned was the one who openly declared and supported Stannis’s rightful claim to the iron throne and combining their forces would’ve made them undefeatable.
They would’ve also been able to sway the Martells and even the Tyrells to join forces thus making it more complicated for the Targaryen Princess in exile – Daenerys to make allies and conquer Westeros.
Ned Stark was the catalyst for the War of the Five Kings. His return would make for interesting speculation but probably very clichéd storytelling.
But one thing is for certain – the political landscape of Westeros would’ve been very different with the return of our tragic hero.
Do you think Ned Stark should return?
